My Food Allergy Story
Early Years
I actually can’t remember ever having problems with what foods I ate early on if my life. I grew up eating pretty much anything and everything and always had plenty of fruits and vegetables as well as a great deal of milk, cheese and eggs in my diet. Italian foods such as stuffed shells, lasagna and pizza were regular items on the menu and I remember homemade macaroni and cheese with lots and lots of cheese was my absolute favorite. The best part was, nothing ever bothered me, I could eat as much as I wanted and there never seemed to be any consequences. I lived on cheese burgers, pizza, roast beef subs, steak, French fries, onion rings and all that good stuff. I can remember getting up in the morning as a teenager an making a gigantic western omelet with tons of ham, cheese, peppers and onions accompanied by bacon and/or sausage and a pile of heavily buttered toast. I’d wash it all down with a quart of orange juice and go right out and start my day. Thinking of having that breakfast now, actually upsets my stomach a little. Man, what I would do to be able to enjoy all that food again. I really miss all that stuff.

I can remember having an upset stomach quite often, but I never really saw it as a problem, until much later. It was not, by any means a problem back then and never in any way affected my everyday life as an active teenager. Life was good. Food was good. Little did I know it would soon become my enemy!?

After High School
Shortly after graduating from high school, I began having problems with stomach pains. I used to have intense pains and acid reflux that were most likely stress induced from going away to college and confronting life decisions etc. It was around this time that I began seeking medical advice. It was also around this time that my frustrations began. It seemed like the doctors didn’t really care enough to actually cure me, he just seemed to want to throw a prescription at it in hopes that it would go away. No such luck. I was given all kinds of meds to treat anything from acid reflux and GERD to anxiety with no cure in sight. I even had an upper GI test and
